By the time this issue of Foreword comes out, the
desilting work on the lake in Palmer 6 should be
completed. Nevertheless, I think the Orchard
membership should be apprised of what has been done,
and why we have undertaken what would be our single
biggest Capital Expenditure for 2010.
The last time the Palmer 6 lake was desilted was 10
years ago, and, at that time, it was not even completely
desilted for lack of budget. Everytime there is a typhoon
or strong rain, silt and garbage find their way into our
lake and what we found on the lake last year was that
only 30 percent of its capacity was being utilized due to
this siltation. The garbage, composed mostly of plastic
bags, wreaked havoc on our irrigation system as small
pieces got through our wetwell screens and found their
way into clogging our sprinklers.
